SWITCHTAPE
TRANSFER REPORT CARD

Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 16, 2026

The Short Version

SwitchTape doesn't have user accounts. We don't have a user database. Your Spotify and Apple Music access tokens are stored only in your browser's localStorage — never on our servers. We do not track you, run ads, or use analytics or marketing pixels.

What We Access

When you connect Spotify or Apple Music, SwitchTape requests the minimum permissions needed for the feature you're using:

  • Playlist transfer: read access to the source playlist; write access to create a new playlist on the destination service.
  • Music Report Card: read access to your top tracks and artists (Spotify) or heavy rotation, recently played, and recommendations (Apple Music).

Where Your Data Goes

For playlist transfer, your music data flows directly between your browser and Spotify/Apple Music's APIs. SwitchTape's servers do not see or store your playlist contents.

For the Music Report Card, your browser aggregates a small summary of your listening (genre counts, era breakdown, top artist names, etc.) and sends it to SwitchTape's server, which forwards it to Google's Gemini API to generate the personality report. The generated report is sent back to your browser and cached in your browser's localStorage. We do not retain the summary or the generated report on our servers.

What We Store

On our servers: nothing about you. Our serverless functions process requests transiently — no database, no user records, no logs of your music data.

On your device (browser localStorage):

  • Spotify access and refresh tokens (so you don't have to log in every time)
  • Apple Music developer token (cached for 24 hours)
  • Your generated Music Report Card (so it's available offline)
  • Your dark mode preference

You can clear all of this at any time by clearing your browser's site data for SwitchTape.

Cookies

SwitchTape does not set tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage for the items listed above, which is similar in spirit but doesn't get sent to any server automatically.

Third Parties

Three external services receive data when you use SwitchTape:

  • Spotify — see Spotify's Privacy Policy. Revoke access at spotify.com/account/apps.
  • Apple Music — see Apple's Privacy Policy. Revoke access in your Apple ID settings.
  • Google Gemini (for AI report generation) — see Google's Privacy Policy. Only the aggregated music summary is sent; no account identifiers are included.

Hosting

SwitchTape is hosted on Vercel. Standard Vercel access logs (IP address, request path, user agent, timestamp) are kept by Vercel for operational purposes per their privacy policy.

Your Rights

Since we don't store personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to export, modify, or delete on your behalf. To remove SwitchTape's access to your music accounts, revoke it directly with Spotify or Apple at the links above. To clear local data, clear your browser's site data for SwitchTape.
